Monica W. Walker, dean of instruction at the Community College of Baltimore County, recently received the 2023 Anna Julia Cooper Excellence Award from the Society for Experiential Education at its national conference in Orlando. The award recognizes Dr. Walker’s outstanding leadership of initiatives that demonstrate an exceptional commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice in experiential education.
Dr. Walker led the interdisciplinary team that designed and implemented the partnership between CCBC and Johns Hopkins University to create conditions where diversity, equity, and inclusion thrive and where students connect humanities-related pedagogy and experiential learning to their academic and personal success.
Dr. Walker was named dean of instruction for the School of Writing, Literacy & Languages at the Community College of Baltimore County in 2020. Earlier, she served as the dean of developmental education and special academic programs and interim vice president of instruction at the college.
Dr. Walker holds a bachelor’s degree in communication from James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia. She earned a master of public administration degree from the University of Baltimore and a doctorate in community college leadership from Morgan State University in Baltimore.
