Darrin Martin Is the New Leader of Bluefield State University in West Virginia

The board of governors of Bluefield State University announced the appointment of alumnus Darrin Martin as its interim president. He has been serving as an associate professor of education, dean of academic support, and, director of graduate education studies.

“I am passionate about Bluefield State and am committed to the next chapters of the university,” said Dr. Martin.

Bluefield State University is a historically Black educational institution. It enrolls nearly 1,300 undergraduate students and about 20 graduate students. Despite its status as an HBCU, African Americans make up just 15 percent of the undergraduate student body.

Dr. Martin is a graduate of Bluefield State University, earning a bachelor’s in mathematics teacher education. He is a third-generation graduate as both his mother and grandmother are alumnae. President Martin earned a doctorate in educational leadership and policy studies at Virginia Tech.
