Detailed Job Description
The Department of Software Engineering in the Golisano College of Computing and Information Sciences at RIT seeks multiple non-tenure-track Lecturers beginning January 2025 or August 2025. We seek candidates with proficiency in the primary areas of software engineering and data science/artificial intelligence. Candidates should demonstrate experience and competence in at least one of, if not both, software engineering and data science/AI, and a willingness to gain experience in teaching courses that span the range of topics within both areas. Teaching topics in software engineering may include but are not limited to: introduction to software engineering; design principles and patterns; design of secure software; enterprise software; concurrent and distributed software; real-time and embedded systems requirements and architecture; project and process management; and web engineering. Teaching topics in data science and artificial intelligence may include, but are not limited to: neural networks, machine learning, visualization, database systems, data management, and high performance computing.

The Golisano College of Computing and Information Sciences prepares students to improve lives and change the world through computing; GCCIS is home to the departments of Computer Science, Software Engineering, Cybersecurity, School of Information, and the School of Interactive Games and Media. The Department:
Founded in 1996, the RIT Department of Software Engineering is the first department of its kind in the US. The department is part of RIT’s largest college, the Golisano College of Computing and Information Sciences. The department has 19 full-time faculty members, 28 Ph.D. students in SE, and multiple postdocs. The SE department offers Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in Software Engineering, as well as a Master’s in Data Science. The undergraduate Software Engineering program has been accredited by ABET since 2001, most recently renewed in 2022, and is the first Software Engineering degree offered in the US. Our faculty publish in top-tier venues and contribute to leading conferences and journals. Funded research is carried out in the areas of artificial intelligence, data science, empirical software engineering, secure software, adaptive software systems, software engineering, software evolution and maintenance, and software engineering education.

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Completion of M.S. or equivalent in a computing discipline, or project management with a computing related minor, or another engineering discipline with industry experience in software engineering.
  • Academic specialization or Industry software development experience
  • Ability to teach courses across the software engineering curriculum or data science curriculum.
  • Ability to contribute to curriculum and course development in software engineering or data science.
  • Strong commitment to software engineering and data science education
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to contribute in meaningful ways to the college’s continuing commitment to cultural diversity, pluralism, and individual differences.
