Job Description:

The Assistant Director of Lifelong Learning (LLL) leads and manages a team responsible for experiential, immersive, lifelong learning conducted virtually, on campus, and around the world.

The Assistant Director manages the two components to this program: the Alumni Travel program and the Lifelong Learning program. The Alumni Travel program works directly with alumni, faculty and travel partners to develop, plan, and execute trips for alumni and faculty focused on experiential global learning. The Lifelong Learning program is a new initiative that keeps Brown alumni connected to the intellectual core of the Brown experience through faculty and alumni speaking engagements, programming, and events. The Assistant Director will help evolve the model and integrate these two initiatives that engage alumni through intellectual programming, with an eye towards high-quality programming, clear and enticing communication, and an excellent traveler experience.

The Assistant Director will help ensure the LLL program is in alignment with the overall Alumni Relations and Advancement strategy, and maintain active rapport and collaboration with other teams within the Department, as well as critical campus partners.

Job Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Minimum 4 years of experience in and related field such as project management, event planning, educational travel, higher education, or nonprofit.

Required Qualifications

  • Must be a creative self-starter with the ability to think strategically, possess superior people skills, and be able to juggle many highly sensitive issues and tasks at once.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with finesse in interacting with faculty, senior administration, and high-profile alumni. A strong relationship builder who is diplomatic and has a talent for successful negotiation.
  • Facility with budget management, budget forecasting, and excellent analytical skills
  • Proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Google suite of tools, experience with web and email technology, experience using databases, and ability to learn new technology quickly.
  • Must be able and willing to work occasional evenings and weekends.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Supervisory experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of Brown University and/or experience in higher education.

  • Ability to present effectively to small and large groups.
  • This position requires an enthusiastic, positive, can-do attitude with a creative and innovative approach to programming.
