James Frazier Appointed President of the International Council for Arts Deans

James Frazier, dean of the College of Fine Arts at Florida State University, has been named president of the International Council for Arts Deans, a global organization of deans, directors, chairs, and other arts executives in higher education.

A tenured professor of dance, Dr. Frazier has served as dean of the College of Fine Arts since 2019. He has over two decades of experience in higher education, primarily with Virginia Commonwealth University. During his 18-year tenure at VCU, he held several roles including full professor, interim dean, associate dean for graduate studies and faculty affairs, and chair of dance and choreography. He previously held adjunct dance instructor roles with Florida A&M University, Temple University in Philadelphia, and Montgomery College in Maryland.

Outside of academia, Dr. Frazier is a professional dance artist. He has performed and toured with the Kokuma Dance Theatre Company in England and Dallas Black Dance Theatre in Texas. He was also a founding member of Edgeworks Dance Theatre in Washington, D.C.

Dr. Frazier is an alumnus of Florida State University, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in marketing and a master of fine arts degree in dance. He holds a doctorate in dance from Temple University.
