Steven Jones has been named the tenth president of Mississippi Delta Community College. He will assume his presidency on January 1.
According to the U.S. Department of Education’s most recent data, Mississippi Delta Community College enrolls about 2,000 students, 64 percent of whom are Black.
Dr. Johnson has been serving as the community college’s vice president of administrative and student services. Prior to joining the Mississippi Delta Community College staff, he held several leadership roles at Hinds Community College in Mississippi, including executive director of Title III and sponsored grants, deputy Title IX coordinator, and director of student housing and residence life. Earlier in his career, he worked as a senior paralegal and law firm administrator for Michael R. Brown Law Offices, PLLC in Jackson, Mississippi.
In addition to his work at Mississippi Delta Community College, Dr. Johnson is a member of the Higher Education Research and Development Institute Innovate Advisory Board. He also frequently serves as an evaluator for the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges.
Dr. Johnson received his associate’s degree from Hinds Community College and his bachelor’s degree and master’s degree from Mississippi College. He holds a Ph.D. in higher education administration from the University of Southern Mississippi.
