Spelman College, a historically Black, women’s liberal arts educational institution in Atlanta, experienced a significant increase in early applications for the Fall 2026 semester.

The HBCU received 6,249 early action applications and 482 early decision applications for Fall 2026 enrollment, marking a 17.7 percent increase in early applications from fall 2025. Through this application round, Spelman extended 1,706 offers of admission.

These early applicants come from a wide range of backgrounds, including students from all 50 U.S. states, 35 countries, and 68 Georgia counties. Admitted students from this cohort represent 39 states, 12 countries, and 45 Georgia counties. Among these admitted students, 22 percent are Georgia residents, 77 percent are out-of-state, and 1 percent are international students. Additionally, 19 percent of admitted students are first-generation college students, and 28 percent are eligible for federal Pell Grants for low-income students.

Spelman’s early action cohort for the class of 2030 has an average weighted GPA between 4.00 and 4.28, a median SAT range between 1240-1400, and an average of 17 completed AP (Advanced Placement), IB (International Baccalaureate), dual enrollment, advanced, or honors courses. The top five intended majors among this student cohort are biology, health science, political science, psychology, and economics.

“Students know what they’re looking for, and they’re finding it at Spelman,” said Chelsea Holley, director of admissions. “They want an institution that’s clear about its mission and serious about Black women’s education. What we’re seeing in this applicant pool is confirmation that Spelman delivers on that — academically rigorous, deeply supportive, and committed to preparing women to lead.”
