Prior to his recent promotion, Dr. Denham served as associate dean for graduate academic affairs, overseeing campus-wide efforts in graduate program design, accreditation, and student and professional development. He first joined the university in 2012 as an assistant professor and was named a full professor of instructional technology in the College of Education in 2025. Dr. Denham has served in several leadership roles throughout his tenure, including program coordinator for instructional technology, co-chair of the General Education Taskforce, and co-chair of the academic affairs committee of the Faculty Senate.

“Graduate education sits at the heart of this university’s research, teaching and service mission,” said Dr. Denham. “So, being tapped by [University of Alabama Provost Lesley Reid] to steward this unit is a profound honor. Additionally, I am very excited about the future of graduate education at UA, as there are many opportunities for us to further strengthen the fantastic work already underway.”

Dr. Denham is a graduate of Oakwood University in Huntsville, Alabama, where he received his bachelor’s degree in mathematics with a minor in religion. He earned his master’s degree in curriculum and instruction with an emphasis in educational technology from La Sierra University in Riverside, California, and his Ph.D. in educational technology from Arizona State University.
