Dillard University Announces the Retirement of Its Chief Fundraiser

WLS(2)Dillard University has announced that Dr. Walter Strong, executive vice president, is retiring after the completion of the $70 million Advantage Dillard! capital campaign. Dr. Strong came to Dillard in the summer of 2005, just weeks before Hurricane Katrina devastated the New Orleans campus of the historically Black university. Strong led the effort to secure $420 million in government grants and private donations to get Dillard back on its feet.

Dillard University President Walter Kimbrough, stated, “We are grateful for the work that Dr. Strong has done in restoring the university and providing leadership during the time of greatest challenges. Because of his work we can move forward and focus on future goals that Dillard is uniquely positioned mqdefaultto pursue.”

Replacing Dr. Strong as the university’s chief fundraiser is Marc Barnes who now holds the title of vice president for institutional advancement. He was the director of development for the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival and Foundation.

The university's board of trustees has appointed Dwayne Tucker, a Tennessee State University alumnus, as the new interim president of the university. He has been serving as CEO of LEAD Public Schools, a network of five charter middle and high schools in the Nashville area.
