Three African American Men in New University Faculty Roles

Felder2Harvey Felder recently joined the faculty at the University of Connecticut as an associate professor of music and director of orchestral studies. He is the former assistant conductor for the Milwaukee Symphony and the resident conductor of the St. Louis Symphony.

Felder is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin at Madison and earned a master’s degree in music at the University of Michigan.

HoldenJames Holden, an assistant professor of music at Virginia State University, has been named interim director of bands at the university. He has been serving as the assistant director of bands.

Holden holds bachelor’s and master’s degree in music education from Jackson State University in Mississippi.

GreenPrestonPreston C. Green III was named the Carla Klein Endowed Professor of Urban Education at the Neag School of Education of the University of Connecticut. He will hold a joint appointment at the University of Connecticut School of Law. The appointment is effective for the fall 2013 semester.

Professor Green currently holds a joint appointment in the College of Education and the School of Law at Pennsylvania State University. He is a graduate of the University of Virginia and the Columbia University School of Law. He holds an educational doctorate from Teachers College at Columbia University.
