The Higher Education of One of the GOP’s Rising Black Stars

Shannon-TWx175Tahrohon Wayne Shannon is Speaker of the Oklahoma House of Representatives. He is only 34 years old and is a rising star in the Republican Party. Shannon is an African American and a member of the Chickasaw Nation.

The National Conference of State Legislatures states that Shannon is the first Black speaker of the Oklahoma House of Representatives, the youngest speaker in the chamber’s history and the only African American GOP speaker in the United States since the days of Reconstruction.

Shannon is a graduate of Cameron University in Lawton, Oklahoma. He earned his law degree at Oklahoma City University.
