New Robotics Laboratory Opens at Elizabeth City State University

ecsu_seal_goldElizabeth City State University, a historically Black educational institution in North Carolina, has opened a new Mobile Robotics and Autonomous Systems Lab that is associated with the university’s department of technology. The new laboratory contains a track that is 20 feet by 24 feet where students and faculty can conduct experiments with mobile robots.

The laboratory will train students to design, build, and program robots and to operate them remotely and autonomously. The university is part of the Advancing Robotics Technology for Societal Impact Alliance. The program, funded by the National Science Foundation, seeks to increase the number of African Americans in high-tech fields.

The new robotics laboratory will also be used during a summer outreach effort aimed at increasing interest among high school in pursuing careers in high technology industries.
