This past weekend, 250 students representing 48 historically Black colleges and universities competed in the Honda Campus All-Star Challenge, held on the campus of the American Honda Motor Company in Torrance, California. For the second year in a row, Morgan State University in Baltimore won the competition, which uses a quiz-show type format based on the old television show, College Bowl.
Morgan State bested a team from Florida A&M University in the championship final. Morgan State and Florida A&M defeated teams from Oakwood University and West Virginia State University in the semifinals. Four other teams reached the quarterfinals in the competition: Alabama State University, Clark Atlanta University, Morehouse College, and North Carolina A&T State University.
Morgan State took home the top prize of $50,000 but all schools in the competition received grant money. All told, American Honda gave out more than $300,000 in grants to participating HBCUs. Since the inception of the Honda Campus All-Star Challenge in 1989, American Honda has given out more than $7 million in grants to participants.
This type of exercise requires reading and preparation of all participants to be successful–you obviously had the grit to come out on top. Congratulations!
