Three Black Administrators Taking on New Assignments in Higher Education

McBrideLisa M. McBride is the inaugural chief diversity officer at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. She was the special assistant to the president for equity and diversity at California University of Pennsylvania.

Dr. McBride holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Indiana State University in Terre Haute. She earned a Ph.D. in conflict analysis and resolution from Nova Southeastern University.

young-carltonCarlton Young was appointed assistant dean for medical student diversity and inclusion at the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Medicine. Dr. Young has been on the faculty at the medical school since 1997 and serves as a professor of surgery and as director of the pancreas transplant program and the pediatric renal transplantation program.

Dr. Young earned his medical degree at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore.

Mathieu-DickensDickens Mathieu was named senior vice president and general counsel at Syracuse University in New York. Currently, he serves as senior legal counsel at Tufts University in Medford, Massachusetts. He will begin his new duties on July 1.

A native of Haiti, Mathieu is a graduate of Amherst College in Massachusetts, where he majored in political science. He holds a J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law.
