Eight African Americans Taking on New Administrative Roles in Higher Education

Dr.-Yvette-Underdue-Murph-copyYvette Underdue Murph was appointed vice president for enrollment management and student affairs at Minnesota State University Moorhead. She has been serving as associate vice president for student affairs, enrollment management, and diversity at Mississippi Valley State University. She was also the interim director of the Center for Excellence in Student Learning at MVSU.

Dr. Underdue Murph holds a master’s degree from Cambridge College and a doctorate in public administration from the University of La Verne in Southern California.

sidjeRoger Sidje was named associate dean for diversity and multicultural programs at the University of Alabama. He is an associate professor of mathematics at the university.

Dr. Sidje joined the faculty at the University of Alabama in 2008. Previously, he taught a the University of Queensland in Australia and the University of Minnesota. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Rennes in France.

TysusJacksonTysus D. Jackson was appointed vice president for institutional advancement at Talladega College in Alabama. For the past five years she has served as director of development for the Child Health Advocacy Institute of the Children’s Hospital Foundation at the Children’s National Medical Center in Washington, D.C. She is the former director of development for the College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences at Virginia Tech.

Jackson is a graduate of Saint Mary’s College in Notre Dame, Indiana. She holds a master’s degree in nonprofit management and philanthropy from Indiana University.

KWilliamsKeisha Williams was appointed director of learning and organization development in the office of human resources at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina. Since 2007 she has been executive director for university organizational and professional development at Virginia Tech.

Williams is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. She holds a master’s degree in public administration from North Carolina Central University and is pursuing a Ph.D. in public administration and policy studies at Virginia Tech.

LeeMelvinLee H. Melvin was named vice provost for enrollment at the University at Buffalo, part of the State University of New York system. Since September 2011, he has been serving as associate vice provost for enrollment at Cornell University. Previously, he was vice president for enrollment planning and management at the University of Connecticut.

Earlier in his career, Melvin held admissions or financial aid posts at the University of Michigan, the University of Georgia, the University of Wisconsin, and Wayne State University.

DRWILBwaltersWilbur L. Walters Jr. was appointed associate dean for undergraduate programs in the College of Science, Engineering, and Technology at Jackson State University in Mississippi. He is an associate professor in the department of physics, atmospheric sciences, and geosciences with a joint appointment in the department of civil and environmental engineering.

Dr. Walters joined the Jackson State faculty in 2002. He is a graduate of Jackson State and holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in materials engineering from the University of Alabama Birmingham.

CurtisCampbell1Curtis Campbell is the new director of athletics at Tuskegee University in Alabama. For six years, he served as the athletics director at Stillman College in Alabama. Previously, he was athletics director at Blackburn College in Carlinville, Illinois.

Campbell is a graduate of Longwood University in Farmville, Virginia, where he majored in social work. He holds a master’s degree in student affairs administration from Radford University in Virginia.

Victor-WilsonVictor K. Wilson was appointed vice president for student affairs at the University of Georgia. Since 2004, he has been serving as executive vice president for student affairs at the College of Charleston in South Carolina.

From 1999 to 2004, Wilson was associate vice president for student affairs at the University of Georgia. He holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Georgia.
