Roy Jones, executive director of the Call Me MISTER program at Clemson University in South Carolina, was named one of the “Most Creative Teachers in the South” by Oxford American magazine.

Dr. Jones is a graduate of the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. He holds a master’s degree in educational psychology from Atlanta University and a doctorate in higher education administration from the University of Georgia.

The board of trustees of Brevard Community College has named a building on the Melbourne, Florida, campus for Joe Lee Smith. Dr. Smith has been an educator for more than 40 years and currently serves as executive adviser to the president of the college. The building that now bears his name houses a computer lab, classrooms, and faculty offices.

Dr. Smith holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Florida A&M University. He earned an educational doctorate at the University of Florida.

Jane Edmonds, a senior fellow in the College of Professional Studies at Northeastern University in Boston, received the Abigail Adams Award from the Massachusetts Women’s Political Caucus. The award is given to women who have served as role models and improved social, economic, and political parity.

Edmonds is a graduate of Harvard University and the Boston College Law School.

The New Mexico State University board of regents has named a street on campus to honor the late Andrew Wall, who was the director of the black studies program on campus from 1973 to 1997. A portion of Locust Street, which runs through the NMSU campus, will now be known as Andrew Wall Place.

Dr. Wall, who earned a Ph.D. at NMSU in 1970, died in December 2010.
