Alton C. Standifer is the new vice president and chief of staff at Clemson University in South Carolina. Dr. Standifer comes to his new role from Augusta University in Georgia, where he was vice president for strategic initiatives. Previously, he spent more than a decade at the University of Georgia, culminating in service as vice provost for academic and community engagement and chief of staff in the Office of the Provost. In 2023, the University System of Georgia selected Dr. Standifer to serve as interim chief of staff at Savannah State University during a presidential transition at the HBCU.
Dr. Standifer received his bachelor’s degree in middle grades education and his master’s degree in higher education administration from Georgia Southern University. He holds a Ph.D. in public administration and policy from the University of Georgia.
Alfred S. Chandler Jr. has been named chief of police at Hampton University in Virginia. Chandler joins the HBCU with more than 24 years of experience in law enforcement. Most recently, he served as chief of police for the City of Suffolk, Virginia. During his tenure with the Suffolk Police Department, he served as a police officer, detective, and master police officer before advancing through supervisory and command positions as sergeant, lieutenant, captain, and deputy chief.
Chandler holds a master’s degree in criminal justice from Saint Leo University in Florida.
Tamara White is the inaugural executive director for belonging and servingness at the University of Northern Colorado. Dr. White previously served as associate dean of students at the University of Denver. Her background in higher education includes prior roles at Fort Range Community College, the Community College of Aurora, the Community College of Denver, and the Colorado Department of Higher Education. She has also served as an education policy advisor for the Office of the Lieutenant Governor of the State of Colorado.
Dr. White received her bachelor’s degree in business administration and her doctorate in higher education, diversity, and higher learning from the University of Denver. Before earning her doctoral degree, Dr. White completed a master’s degree in college student personnel from Western Illinois University.
Ashley Robinson was appointed vice president and athletic director at Texas Southern University in Houston. Robinson has extensive athletics leadership experience at historically Black universities. He spent the past six years as the athletic director for Jackson State University in Mississippi. Earlier, he was vice president and director of athletics at Prairie View A&M University in Texas. Robinson has also held athletics administrative roles at Delaware State University, Mississippi Valley State University, and the Southwestern Athletic Conference.
An alumnus of Mississippi Valley State University, Robinson holds a master’s degree from the United States Sports Academy.
