Southern University Switching to Four-Day Class Schedule

For the spring center, Southern University in Baton Rouge will not hold any classes on Fridays. Chancellor Charles Llorens stated that employees will continue to work five says a week but classes will be held only on Mondays through Thursdays in an effort to save costs on utilities.

Under the plan, classes that met for 50 minutes on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday will now meet on Monday and Wednesday only for one hour and 20 minutes each day.

In Memoriam: William Strickland, 1937-2024

Strickland spent his lifetime dedicated to advancing civil rights and Black political representation. For four decades, he served as a professor of political science at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, where he taught courses on Black history and the civil rights movement.
