African American Entrepreneur Creates New Fellowships at Harvard

Sheila_JohnsoSheila C. Johnson, the CEO of Salamander Hotels & Resorts and a co-founder of Black Entertainment Television, has pledged to donate $5 million over five years to create the Sheila C. Johnson Fellowships at the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. The fellowships will bring 10 emerging leaders to Harvard each year who are dedicated to improving the lives of African Americans and other minorities. The fellowships will include full tuition, health coverage, and a stipend for students working toward any graduate degree at the Kennedy School.

“We need to develop more leaders with a broad skill set to serve African Americans and other under-resourced communities,” Johnson said. “An ability to work across sectors – public, private, and nonprofit – and to inspire innovative politics will help bring the sustainable improvements that these communities desperately need.”

Johnson is a graduate of the University of Illinois, where she majored in music.
