The Jacob Hunt Center for Urban Education at Clark University in Worcester, Massachusetts, recently held its first of what it hopes to be an annual Youth Summit on Race, Class, and Education. The summit brought high school students from all parts of the state to campus for a six-hour program that discussed how race and class shape the educational experiences of American youth.
The program included lectures, interactive activities, panels, and performances. The summit was organized by Dr. Raphael Rogers, a visiting assistant professor of education at the university. He stated, “Many students were open to sharing their personal experiences with race and class in their schools. Both the students and the teachers had such positive response to the panelists; they provided attendees with insight, information, and inspiration.”
Dr. Clark is a graduate of Clark University. He earned a master’s degree at Northeastern University in Boston and an educational doctorate from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.
