Goulda Downer, an assistant professor of medicine at Howard University in Washington, D.C., received the 2013 Health Brain Trust Leadership in Advocacy Award from the Congressional Black Caucus. Dr. Downer was honored for her work to train a clinical workforce to combat HIV/AIDS.
A native of Jamaica, Dr. Downer is a graduate of the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York, where she majored in human nutrition. She earned a master’s degree and a Ph.D. at Howard University and then conducted postdoctoral research in pediatric nutrition at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C.
