Rose Glee, who served as interim director of the Office of Technology Transfer, Licensing, and Commercialization at Florida A&M University, died on January 24 at a hospital in Tallahassee. She was 71 years old.
Dr. Glee’s career in research spanned more than 40 years. She formerly held posts at the Southern Regional Research Center of the U.S. Department of Agriculture in New Orleans and was the director of the Office of Sponsored Research at Southern University campuses in Baton Rouge and New Orleans.
Dr. Glee was a graduate of Suwannee River Junior College and Florida A&M University, where she majored in chemistry. She earned a master’s degree in textile chemistry at Ohio State University and a Ph.D. in textile chemistry at the University of Wisconsin.
Sorry to learn Dr. Glee has passed. We worked together when we were both at Southern Univefsity. She always made positive contributions.
I was saddened to hear of Dr. Glee’s transition. She was my academic advisor when I was an undergraduate at Southern University. During that time, I also worked for her as a student research assistant in her textiles lab. One memory of my interaction with Dr. Glee still stands out. I’d gone to see her because I felt the need to drop a class. I was pledging a sorority and didn’t want my grades to suffer. As I previously stated, she was my academic advisor. She made me sign a document that stated that if my graduation was delayed because I’d dropped that class, it was on me. As a first-generation college student, that put fear in me!!! I knew I could not go back to North Louisiana without my degree in hand. Believe me, I re-enrolled in that class the very next semester and still graduated in less than four years. They don’t make many advisors like that anymore! She took her responsibilities quite seriously and I sincerely appreciate her for that! I am now back at Southern. I saw Dr. Glee a few years ago. We had time to reminisce. I thanked her for the positive impact she had on my life. I only hope I am making a difference in the lives of the students with whom I come into contact. –Doze Y. Dr. Rose Glee. Oh! what a great loss. She and her family were there for my family when my Mother Rosa L. Tyson died. She and I talked about her desire to write a book. I wrote a book(Fatal Promises-Trafford Publishing) a few years ago. She was such a nice person. The Glee family showed love to neighbors as well as anyone they came in contact with. I was really hurt when I learned about her death. Rest in Peace Rose. I know that God is smiling on you because of your love of people and mankind. You will be missed by family and friends.
