Honors for the Student Newspaper at Grambling State University

GrambliniteAwardThe Black College Communication Association has named The Gramblinite, the student newspaper at Grambling State University in Louisiana, the best campus newspaper among all of the nation’s historically Black colleges and universities. The announcement was made at the annual HBCU Excellence in Journalism conference held at Prairie View A&M University in Texas. In addition to the best newspaper award, The Gramblinite also won first place in the categories of best editorial cartoons and best spot news coverage.

WandaPetersWanda L. Peters, an assistant professor in the department of mass communication and faculty publication director, stated, “The Gramblinite’s designation as the best student newspaper among historically Black colleges and universities is a testament to the quality of the work of the student journalists here at Grambling. These students work hard to put out a paper each week and they take their work seriously.”

Peters joined the Grambling faculty in 1998 after working as a professional journalist for the Shreveport Times. She holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Grambling State University.
