New Administrative Roles for Seven African Americans in Higher Education

Aaron J. Campbell has been selected to serve as interim director of bands at North Carolina A&T State University. With more than 25 years of experience in musical leadership, Campbell has been serving as the HBCU’s assistant director of bands and chief arranger. Earlier in his career, he was director of bands at Neal Middle School and Oak Ridge Military Academy in North Carolina.

Campbell is an alumnus of North Carolina A&T State University, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in electronic music. He holds a master’s degree in music education from East Carolina University in Greenville, North Carolina.

W. Anthony Neal is the new executive director of the Albany State University Foundation. He comes to Albany State from Florida A&M University, where he was vice president for university advancement and executive director of the Florida A&M University Foundation. Before that role, he was senior vice president of advancement at Wiley University in Marshall, Texas. Dr. Neal previously served as vice president of institutional advancement at LeMoyne-Owen College in Memphis, Tennessee.

Dr. Neal earned his bachelor’s degree in economics from Denison University in Granville, Ohio. He holds a master’s degree in public administration from Central Michigan University and a Ph.D. in higher education administration from Jackson State University in Mississippi.

Brian Clemmons was appointed vice president of enrollment management and student experience at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore. Dr. Clemmons brings nearly 20 years of higher education experience to his new role. He most recently served as the inaugural vice president for enrollment management and student affairs at Bowie State University in Maryland.

Dr. Clemmons holds a bachelor’s degree from Duke University in Durham, North Carolina, a master’s degree from North Carolina Central University, and a doctorate from the University of New England in Biddeford, Maine.

Sherria N. King was named executive vice president for academic strategy and student outcomes at Southwest Tennessee Community College. She is the former dean of humanities, social sciences, and mathematics at the college. Earlier, Dr. King was the president of the Remington College campus in Memphis, Tennessee.

Dr. King is a graduate of Middle Tennessee State University, where she majored in psychology. She holds a master’s degree in forensic psychology from Argosy University and a Ph.D. in psychology from Walden University.

Ronald M. Carrere, Jr. was promoted to chief of staff and vice president of government and community relations at Xavier University of Louisiana. He has been serving as the university’s associate vice president of government and community relations. Before joining the Xavier administration, Carrere was vice president of development at Liberty Bank & Trust. Earlier, he worked in workforce and economic development for the City of New Orleans.

Carrere holds bachelor’s degrees in finance and business administration from the University of New Orleans and a master’s degree in sustainable real estate development from Tulane University in New Orleans.

J’Maine Chubb is the new chief financial officer and vice president of business and administration at Texas Southern University. Chubb has more than 20 years of financial leadership experience. His background includes chief financial officer positions at VIA Metropolitan Transit in San Antonio, the Houston Airport System, the Greater Toronto Airports Authority, and TravelWifi.

Chubb received his bachelor’s degree in accounting and his MBA in finance from Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan.

Adarian D. Williams, deputy chief of staff in the Office of the President at Grambling State University in Louisiana, is taking on an expanded role as director of strategic communications and marketing at the HBCU. In this new role, Williams will continue to serve as deputy chief of staff while providing leadership across key internal and external communication units. Before his career in academia, Williams was senior manager of congressional relations for the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation.

Williams holds bachelor’s degrees in music and visual and performing arts and a master’s degree in public policy from Grambling State University.
