American University of Nigeria to Open New “Smart” Library

aunThe American University of Nigeria has announced that it will open its new “smart” library in May. The American University of Nigeria is an innovator in digital library technology. The library has more than 200,000 electronic books and journals in its inventory. The new “bricks and mortar” library will be smaller since books are stored electronically and library space will be geared to accommodate readers of e-books and journals.

All American University of Nigeria students are equipped with laptop computers or tablets and there is campus-wide, wireless access to the Internet.

Margee Ensign, president of the American University of Nigeria, stated, “While the new library will not be the biggest university library in the world, it will be among the smartest. Here in Nigeria, we cannot just focus on traditional education. To make education accessible and less expensive, it has to be about technology.”

Ensign added, “Education is the key to helping people provide for themselves and their families. It’s the key to making Nigeria and the world a better place. We’re already seeing the results of our e-learning in our students and graduates. AUN’s new smart library will advance learning faster throughout our nation and the continent as a whole.”
