Isaac Greggs, the long-time director of bands at Southern University, died late last month. He was 85 years old.
Greggs led the Southern University marching band, called the Human Jukebox, for 36 years until his retirement in 2005. During his tenure the band played at six Super Bowls and three presidential inaugurations.
Lawrence Jackson, the current director of bands at the university, stated, “Dr. Greggs was an icon in the marching band world. Many of the things we do today, we do because Dr. Greggs was the architect.”
