University of the District of Columbia to Eliminate 17 Faculty Positions

udcThe University of the District of Columbia has announced that it is eliminating 17 faculty positions. Faculty will be notified by August 16 whether they still have jobs.

The elimination of the faculty positions is the result of the university’s “right-sizing,” which is eliminating a dozen majors and programs due to reduced funding and shrinking enrollments. Students in majors that are being phased out will be taught by adjunct professors until they have completed their degree programs.

The president of the faculty association at the university has stated the intention to challenge the staff reductions in court if necessary.
