Cornel West to Return to Union Theological Seminary

Next July, Cornel West, the Class of 1943 University Professor at Princeton University and one of the nation’s preeminent African-American scholars, will join the faculty at the Union Theological Seminary in New York City. Dr. West will serve as professor of philosophy and Christian practices and teach a full course load. He will receive the title of professor emeritus at Princeton.

In announcing the appointment, Dr. Serene Jones, president of Union Theological Seminary, called Professor West, “the leading public theologian of our age.”

Dr. West served on the Union Theological Seminary faculty from 1977 to 1984 and again from 1987 to 1988. He has also taught at Yale and Harvard. A magna cum laude graduate of Harvard University, Dr. West earned a Ph.D. at Princeton University.
