Eight HBCUs Sign Agreement With China’s Ministry of Education

Eight historically Black colleges and universities have signed an agreement with the China Education Association for International Exchange. The agreement calls for 1,000 scholarships for students at the HBCUs to study abroad in China.

pres_wilson“This collaboration between the Chinese government and HBCUs provides an excellent opportunity to enable our students to become competent in Chinese history and culture, and will significantly enhance their abilities to be successful global leaders throughout the world,” said Dr. David Wilson, president of Morgan State University in Baltimore.

The HBCUs participating in the initiative are Howard University, Morgan State University, Hampton University, Xavier University of Louisiana, Tougaloo College, Morehouse College, Spelman College, and Bowie State University.

In Memoriam: William Strickland, 1937-2024

Strickland spent his lifetime dedicated to advancing civil rights and Black political representation. For four decades, he served as a professor of political science at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, where he taught courses on Black history and the civil rights movement.
