Howard University Scientists Involved in a Pacific Ocean Research Expedition

ACAPEXScientists from Howard University in Washington, D.C., are participating in a month-long expedition aboard the Ronald H. Brown, a research vessel of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. The research effort will examine how atmospheric particles impact the health of the world’s oceans, specifically how particles over the Pacific Ocean influence precipitation in the western United States.

Among the six scientists on the mission is Vernon Morris, an associate professor of chemistry at Howard University. Dr. Morris stated that “this opportunity is a new chapter for our science team as it is a different geographical region, a different phenomenon, and a new scientific collaboration. I am looking forward to the new challenges and opportunities.”

Dr. Morris is a graduate of Morehouse College in Atlanta and holds a Ph.D. in geophysical sciences from the Georgia Institute of Technology.
