Four African Americans Named to New University Administrative Posts

wkguion_newsSidebarW. Kent Guion was selected as the chief diversity officer at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. He has been serving as vice president for diversity and inclusion at Georgia Regents University. Dr. Guion will begin his new job in April.

Dr. Guion is a graduate of North Carolina State University, where he majored in zoology. He holds a master’s degree in exercise physiology and a medical degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

141210_jwb_meredith_evans_rollupMeredith Evans was appointed associate librarian at Washington University in St. Louis. In this role, she is the director of the department of special collections. She was the associate university librarian for special collections at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.

Dr. Evans holds a master’s degree in history from North Carolina State University and a master of library science degree from Clark Atlanta University. She earned a doctorate at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

BarnesTanya Barnes-Jones is the new assistant registrar at Saint Augustine’s University in Raleigh, North Carolina. She was the associate registrar at Shaw University, also in Raleigh.

Barnes-Jones holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Elizabeth City State University in North Carolina.

Lee_McElroyLee A. McElroy Jr. was appointed interim director of athletics at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York. For the past 14 years, he has served as vice president and director of athletics at the University at Albany.

Dr. McElroy is a graduate of the University of California at Los Angeles, where he majored in political science and played varsity football. He holds a master’s degree in education from the University of Southern California and an educational doctorate from the University of Houston.
