Southern University Offers In-State Tuition to Some Out-of-State Students

SouthernUniversitySouthern University, the historically Black educational institution in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, has announced that it will offer in-state tuition rates to students from all 50 states if they meet certain criteria. To qualify for the lower in-state tuition, students must have a composite score of 20 on the ACT college entrance examination or a 940 composite score on the reading and mathematics sections of the SAT test. Students must also have a 2.7 grade point average in high school on a 4.0 scale.

In order for out-of-state students to continue to receive the fee waiver once they are enrolled at Southern University, they must retain their status as a full-time student and maintain a 2.5 grade point average.

Under the proposal, out-of-state students would save more than $4,100 per semester if they qualify for in-state rates.
