The Next Dean of the College of Education at New Mexico State University

Donald B Pope DavisDonald Pope-Davis was named the next dean of the College of Education at New Mexico State University in Las Cruces. He will begin his new job on July 15.

Currently, Dr. Pope-Davis is a professor of clinical psychology at DePaul University in Chicago. He served as provost at DePaul from 2013 to 2014. Earlier, he was associate provost at the University of Notre Dame in Indiana.

In announcing why he sought the position of dean at New Mexico State University, Dr. Pope-Davis said the “the opportunity to be engaged with a college and institution that places pedagogical engagement, excellence in scholarship, diversity and inclusive excellence, and collaborative learning as important core goals were extremely attractive to me. It has a commitment to serve the needs of the community in which it resides. It wants to grow in terms of its research infrastructure and continue to elevate programs in the college and university to a level of distinction. Its goal is to be a transformative institution in the state of New Mexico. Those are the things I find very attractive.”

Professor Pope-Davis is a graduate of Benedictine University in Lisle, Illinois. He holds a master’s degree in counseling psychology from Indiana University and a Ph.D. from Stanford University in California.
