Hampton University, the historically Black educational institution in Virginia, has started a new effort to recruit Hispanic/Latino students to its adult and continuing education programs. The university is hiring a liaison to the Hispanic/Latino community and a coordinator of Hispanic/Latino outreach and student programs, who will serve as a bilingual recruiter.
Almarie Munley, dean of the Hampton University – University College and a graduate of Science Universidad Del Valle de Guatemala, stated that “our nation has arrived at a very important moment in our society where achieving diversity and inclusion in an era of transformation is key to the growth of the Hispanic population in Hampton Roads. Hampton University – University College recognizes the contributions made and the important presence of the Hispanic/Latino population in our learning communities.”
According to the latest data from the U.S. Department of Education, Hispanics make up one percent of the undergraduate student body at Hampton University.
