William A. “Sandy” Darity Jr., the Arts and Sciences Professor of Public Policy, African and African American Studies, and Economics at Duke University, received the Samuel Z. Westerfield Award from the National Economic Association. The award is the highest honor bestowed by the NEA. The award recognizes an economist who has a distinguished record of scholarly research, professional achievement, contributions to government and/or service to the community.
Professor Darity is a fellow of the Center for Advanced Studies in Behavioral Sciences at Stanford University. He is the author of eight books and the editor-in-chief of the second edition of the nine-volume International Encyclopedia of the Social Sciences.
Dr. Darity is a graduate of Brown University and holds a Ph.D. in economics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
