Three Black Faculty Members Taking on New Assignments

Tyson-FacultyTyson King-Meadows, associate professor of political science and chair of Africana studies at the University of Maryland Baltimore County, has been given the extra duty as associate dean of the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences at the university. He will become associate dean in the summer of 2016.

Dr. King-Meadows joined the faculty at the university in 2003. He is a graduate of North Carolina Central University and holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

kevin-gainesKevin K. Gaines was named the W.E.B. Du Bois Professor of Africana Studies at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. He was the Robert Hayden Professor of History and Afro-American and African Studies at the University of Michigan. He has served on the faculty at the University of Michigan since 1999. Professor Gaines is the author of Uplifting the Race: Black Leadership, Politics, and Culture During the Twentieth Century (University of North Carolina Press, 1996) and American Africans in Ghana: Black Expatriates and the Civil Rights Era (University of North Carolina Press, 2006).

Dr. Gaines holds a master’s degree in government and a Ph.D. in American civilization from Brown University.

kelly pryorBrandy N. Kelly Pryor was appointed assistant professor of information sciences in the School of Public Health at the University of Louisville. She will also serve as director of the Center for Health Equity at the Louisville Metro Department of Public Health and Wellness. She has been serving on the faculty at Texas A&M University.

Dr. Kelly Pryor holds a bachelor’s degree in international affairs and a master’s degree in education administration and human development from George Washington University in Washington, D.C. She earned a Ph.D. in recreation, park, and tourism sciences at Texas A&M University.
