Four African Americans in New Administrative Posts at Southern Universities

tanyawatersTanaya M. Walters was named vice president for student affairs at Clark Atlanta University in Georgia. She has been serving as dean of students at Johnson and Wales University in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Walters holds a bachelor’s degree in marketing and a master’s degree in managerial technology from Johnson and Wales University. She is currently in the educational doctorate program at Benedictine University in Lisle, Illinois.

BarnwellJames Barnwell was named director of public safety at Savannah State University in  Georgia. He has been serving as a major in the Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department. He joined the force in 1983.

Barnwell is a graduate of Savannah State University, where he majored in criminal justice. He holds a master of public administration degree from Columbus State University in Georgia.

lee-gillLee A. Gill was appointed chief diversity officer and special assistant to the president for inclusive excellence at Clemson University in South Carolina. He was associate vice president for inclusion and equity and chief diversity officer at the University of Akron in Ohio.

Gill is a graduate of the University of Michigan, where he majored in political science. He earned a juris doctorate at the Chicago-Kent College of Law of the Illinois Institute of Technology.

Dobson_Frank_Frank E. Dobson Jr. was promoted to associate dean of students at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee. He has been serving as the director of the Black Cultural Center on the Vanderbilt campus and will continue to do so.

Dr. Dobson is a graduate of the University at Buffalo of the State University of New York System. He holds a master’s degree from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas and a Ph.D. from Bowling Green State University in Ohio.
