Voorhees College, the historically Black educational institution in Denmark, South Carolina, has announced that it will offer a new bachelor’s degree program in psychology. The new major will focus on providing students with the opportunity to understand major theoretical approaches, findings, and historical trends in psychology and to familiarize them with research methods in psychology, including design, data analysis, and interpretation.
Tywana Branch, an assistant professor of psychology, notes that the problems of the world, such as violence, crime, economic issues, prejudice and discrimination, illness, alcohol and drug abuse, are caused by the behaviors of human beings, which falls under the discipline of psychology, which is interconnected with every other discipline. “Psychology is such a fascinating subject, and I cannot wait to expose our students to the scientific study of behavior and mental processes,” Branch said.
Dr. Branch holds a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Voorhees College. She earned a master’s degree in counseling psychology from Troy State University and a doctorate in psychology from Capella University.
