Tennessee State University Scholar Wins Book Award

KimbroHamilton.Harriett Kimbro-Hamilton, an associate professor of human performance and science at Tennessee State University in Nashville, won the Robert Peterson Recognition Award at the 19th annual Jerry Malloy Negro League Conference in Kansas City. The award honors works that increase public awareness of the Negro Baseball League.

Book2Dr. Kimbro-Hamilton was honored for her book Daddy’s Scrapbook: Henry Kimbro of the Negro League, a Daughter’s Perspective (In Due Season Publishing, 2015). The book chronicles the life of the author’s father who was a six-time all-star in the Negro Baseball League. He spent most of his career playing for the Baltimore Elite Giants. Henry Kimbro was often referred to as the “Black Ty Cobb.”

Dr. Kimbro-Hamilton is a graduate of Fisk University in Nashville. She holds a master’s degree from Florida State University and a doctorate from Temple University in Philadelphia.
