New Administrative Posts in Higher Education for Four African Americans

barkerMarco Barker is the new associate vice president for diversity, equity, and inclusion at Westminster College in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was the senior director for education , operations and initiatives in the Office of Diversity and Multicultural Affairs at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Dr. Barker is a graduate of the University of Arkansas, where he majored in industrial engineering. He holds an MBA from Webster University and a Ph.D. in educational leadership and research from Louisiana State University.

george-johnsonGeorge Johnson Jr. was appointed assistant vice president for communications and marketing at Claflin University in Orangeburg, South Carolina. He was director of integrated marketing and public relations at Oakwood University in Huntsville, Alabama.

Johnson is a graduate of Washington Adventist University in Takoma Park, Maryland, where he majored in communication.

greenjJoseph Michael Green was named executive director for retention, progression, and completion and head of the Student Success Center at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. He was the director of the Educational Opportunity Program at Marquette University in Milwaukee.

Dr. Green holds a bachelor’s degree in sociology and a master’s degree in counseling psychology from Bowie State University in Maryland. He earned a Ph.D. in political science at Howard University in Washington, D.C.

Joanna RavelloJoanna N. Ravello was promoted to director of community and organizational development at the University of Rhode Island. She was the assistant director of the Talent Development program at the university.

A native of Trinidad and Tobago, Dr. Ravello moved to the United States at the age of 6. She holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Rhode Island and a doctorate in higher education administration from the University of Massachusetts in Boston.
