Hardin Coleman Will Step Down as Dean of Boston University’s School of Education

colemanHardin Coleman, dean of the School of Education at Boston University, announced that he will step down from his post at the end of the academic year. He will take a one-year sabbatical and then return to the university as a full-time faculty member in master’s degree programs in family therapy and school counseling. He will also serve as the director of the Center for Character & Social Responsibility at the university.

Dr. Coleman has served as dean for the past eight years. Before coming to Boston University, Dr. Coleman was associate dean of outreach and multicultural initiatives in the School of Education at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He spent 17 years on the faculty at the University of Wisconsin.

Dr. Coleman is a native of Philadelphia. His father William T. Coleman was chair of the NAACP Legal Defense Fund and was Secretary of Transportation in the administration of President Gerald Ford.

Hardin Coleman is a graduate of Williams College in Williamstown, Massachusetts. He holds a master’s degree from the University of Vermont and a Ph.D. in counseling from Stanford University in California. He is the co-editor of the Handbook of School Counseling (Routledge, 2008).
