A Quartet of African Americans in New Administrative Positions at State Universities

wanda-fordWanda Ford was appointed interim vice president for finance and administration and chief financial officer at Florida A&M University in Tallahassee. A member of the university’s staff since 2001, Dr. Ford has been serving as executive director of the university’s Title III programs.

Dr. Ford is a graduate of Albany State University in Georgia, where she majored in accounting. She holds a master’s degree and a doctorate in organizational management.

cupinkneyDwayne Pinkney is the new senior vice chancellor for finance and administration and chief financial officer for the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He had been serving as vice provost for finance and academic planning and secretary for the university. Dr. Pinkney has been on the staff at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill since 2004.

Dr. Pinkney is a graduate of North Carolina A&T State University in Greensboro. He holds a master of public administration degree from the University of Pittsburgh and a Ph.D. in political science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

bryantp_fall16Paul Bryant will become director of athletics at Grambling State University in Louisiana on January 1. He has been the athletics director at South Carolina State University. He has also served as athletics director at Stillman College in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, and Eureka College in Illinois.

Bryant holds a bachelor’s degree from Alaska Pacific University and a master’s degree in education from Urbana University in Ohio. He is pursuing an educational doctorate in athletic administration from Northcentral University.

angela-clementsAngela Clements was promoted to assistant vice president for advancement at the Boonshoft School of Medicine at Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio. She was the executive director for development at the medical school. From 2012 to 2015, Clements was the director of major gifts.

Earlier in her career, Clements was a senior development officer for the Dayton Foundation. A certified public accountant, Clements is  graduate of the University of Cincinnati, where she majored in business administration.

The Universities That Awarded the Most Doctorates to African Americans From 2019 to 2023

Walden University, headquartered in Minneapolis but conducts most of its business online, awarded 1,536 doctorates to African Americans during the five-year period. This was 12 percent of all doctorates awarded to Black Americans during the five-year period. The only other universities awarding more than 200 doctorates to African Americans were two historically Black educational institutions, Howard University and Jackson State University.
