The new Black Cultural Center at the University of Wisconsin-Madison was recently dedicated. The ceremony was held at the end of Black History Month, although the new center will not be ready for complete use until May.
The 2,300-square-foot center is located in the Red Gym building on campus in a space that used to house the International Academic Programs’ Study Abroad Resource Center. The new center will serve as a venue for programming, community organizing, and academic activities related to Black culture.
Marquise Mays, president of the Wisconsin Black Student Union, stated that “this center will be a place for people – not just Black people, but the whole University of Wisconsin community – to learn about the vast contributions of Black students to this university.”
