The First Black Editor-in-Chief of the Emory Law Journal

Janiel Myers has been elected editor-in-chief of the Emory Law Journal. She is the first Black student to be elected to the post in the journal’s 65-year history.

Meyers, who is scheduled to earn her law degree in 2018, is chair of academic and professionalism success for the Emory Black Law Student Association.

“I hope my appointment will have a future impact on the diversity at the law school. I hope that prospective Black students and other students of color will see Emory Law as a place of community and inclusion when making their admission decisions,” Myers explained.

Myers is a native of Jamaica but has become a U.S. citizen. She will spend the upcoming summer as an intern for Weil, Gotshal & Manges law firm.
