Daniel Aldridge Promoted to Full Professor at Davidson College

Davidson College, the highly rated liberal arts college in Davidson, North Carolina, has promoted five faculty members to full professor. One of the five scholars is African American.

Daniel W. Aldridge III was named full professor of history. He first joined the Davidson faculty in 2000.

Professor Aldridge is a native of Nashville, Tennessee. He is a graduate of Michigan State University and earned a law degree at Northwestern University. After serving two years as a public defender, he returned to the academic world to earn a Ph.D. in history at Emory University. His dissertation topic concerned Franklin Roosevelt and the origins of the United Nations.

Dr. Aldridge taught for two years at Ursinus College in Collegeville, Pennsylvania, before joining the Davidson faculty. He is the author of the 2011 book, Becoming American: The African American Quest for Civil Rights, 1861-1976.
