The University of Maryland Eastern Shore, the historically Black educational institution in Princess Anne, has entered into a new partnership with Salisbury University, which is located about 11 miles away. Salisbury University enrolls nearly 8,000 undergraduate students and close to 900 graduate students. African Americans make up 14 percent of the undergraduate student body.
The partnership will allow qualified students who are majoring in chemistry at Salisbury University and who have completed three years of study to gain admission to the professional pharmacy degree program at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore. At the University of Maryland Eastern Shore, the students can complete a pharmacy doctorate in another three years. Successful participants will receive a bachelor’s degree from Salisbury University and a doctorate of pharmacy degree from the University of Maryland Eastern Shore.
Rondall E. Allen, dean of the School of Pharmacy and Health Professions at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore, stated that “we are excited about our partnership with Salisbury University and look forward to working with them to fully implement this agreement. Faculty at both institutions, Allen said, will collaborate to ensure courses and student performance meet rigorous academic standards, and that Salisbury University students have access to advising about how to qualify for early admission to the University of Maryland Eastern Shore.
