John L. Jackson Appointed Dean of School of Communication at the University of Pennsylvania

The Annenberg School of Communication at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia has announced the appointment of John L. Jackson Jr. as the school’s next dean. Dr. Jackson will become dean on January 1, 2019.

Dr. Jackson currently serves as the Richard Perry University Professor and dean of the School of Social Policy and Practice at the University of Pennsylvania. He has held that post since 2014. Professor Jackson joined the faculty at the university in 2006.

Dr. Jackson is the author or co-author of several books including Thin Description: Ethnography and the African Hebrew Israelites of Jerusalem (Harvard University Press, 2013) and Racial Paranoia: The Unintended Consequences of Political Correctness (Basic Civitas, 2008).

Dr. Jackson is a summa cum laude graduate of Howard University in Washington, D.C. He holds two master’s degrees and a Ph.D. in anthropology from Columbia University in New York City.
