Carole Boyce-Davies is the Eric Eustace Williams, Ph.D., Endowed Chair in Caribbean Studies at Howard University in Washington, D.C. Dr. Boyce-Davies currently serves as chair of Howard’s Department of English. A former endowed professor at Cornell University, she has edited and authored several books, including Left of Karl Marx. The Political Life of Black Communist Claudia Jones (Duke University Press, 2008) and Black Women, Writing and Identity: Migrations of the Subject (Routledge, 1994).
Dr. Boyce-Davies is a graduate of the University of Maryland, Eastern Shore, where she majored in English. She holds a master’s degree in African studies with a focus on literature and sociology from Howard University, a Ph.D. in English with a focus on African and Caribbean literature from the University of Ibadan in Nigeria, and a master of laws degree from St. Thomas University.
Whitney Fields is a new assistant professor of history at Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, New York. Her current research project is “Captive in a Promised Land,” the first historical study to focus on the incarceration of Black people in the nation’s first prisons and penitentiaries.
Dr. Fields is a graduate of the College of William and Mary in Virginia. She holds a Ph.D. from Rutgers University in New Jersey. Dr. Fields was the inaugural Postdoctoral Research Assistant of the Initiative on Race and Resilience at the University of Notre Dame.
Anthony Robinson is a new assistant professor of psychology at Wayne State University in Detroit. He first joined the university in 2024 as a Pathway to Faculty Fellow. Over the past two years, he has been involved in developing a clinical research database as at the WSU Psychology Clinic, as well as a community-based assessment program with the Institute of Gerontology, the Healthier Black Elders Center, and the Michigan Alzheimer’s Disease Center.
Dr. Robinson earned bachelor’s degrees in criminal justice and psychology and a master’s degree in psychological research from Texas State University. He holds a Ph.D. in clinical psychology from Louisiana State University.
Angel Jones is a new assistant professor in the doctoral program in educational leadership at the University of Washington Tacoma. Dr. Jones is a critical race scholar whose work focuses on microaggressions, racial battle fatigue, and anti-Blackness in the Latine community. She is the author of Street Scholar: Using Public Scholarship to Educate, Advocate, and Liberate (Peter Lang International Publishers, 2022).
Dr. Jones is a graduate of Syracuse University in New York, where she majored in political science. She holds a master’s degree in school counseling from Georgia State University and a Ph.D. in education from George Washington University.
Sandra Thomas-Lalmansingh is a new assistant professor of nursing at McDaniel College in Westminster, Maryland. A retired commander in the United States Navy Nurse Corps, Dr. Thomas-Lalmansingh served for 20 years at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland; Naval Hospital Camp Lejeune in North Carolina; and Naval Hospital Roosevelt Roads in Puerto Rico. She previously taught at Hood College, the Catholic University of America, and Howard University.
Dr. Thomas-Lalmansingh is a graduate of Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, where she majored in nursing. She holds a master’s degree in nursing from the Catholic University of America and a Ph.D. in nursing from the University of Phoenix.
Kira Reed was named special assistant to the chancellor for community impact at Syracuse University in New York. In this role, Dr. Reed, an associate professor of management in the Whitman School of Management and a research associate with the Lender Center for Social Justice, will chair a cross-campus committee charged with conducting an assessment of the impact the university’s faculty, staff, and students on the City of Syracuse and the broader Central New York communities. Dr. Reed’s research centers on the intersection of the external political environment, gender, and corporate social responsibility.
Dr. Reed is a graduate of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where she majored in finance. She holds an MBA in management, marketing, and organization behavior from Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, and a Ph.D. in management with an emphasis on strategic management from the University of Connecticut.
