Prairie View A&M University, the historically Black educational institution in Texas, has announced the establishment of the Innovation and Commercialization Center for Entrepreneurs (ICCE) on campus. The center is part of an effort by the entire Texas A&M University System to take on a more significant role in accelerating economic growth statewide. The new center will offer more laboratory and innovation space that coincides with a growing number of the university’s faculty and students engaged in large-scale research activities.
Some of the research will focus on developing products for the Internet of Things (IoT) – a network of physical devices, vehicles, home appliances and other items embedded with electronics, software, sensors, actuators and network connectivity which enable these objects to connect and exchange data.
Dr. Cajetan M. Akujuobi, vice president of the Office of Research, Innovation and Sponsored Programs at Prairie View A&M University, stated that “we’re trying to make sure we have a place where industry partners bring prototypes they would want to market, and we can help them with those prototypes.”
