Four African Americans Taking on New Assignments at Colleges and Universities

John Silvanus Wilson Jr. was named senior adviser to the Presidential Task Force for Inclusion and Belonging at Harvard University. He has been conducting research at Harvard’s Graduate School of Education. Dr. Wilson is the former president of Morehouse College in Atlanta and the former executive director of the White House Initiative on Historically Black College and Universities. Earlier, he was was an associate professor of higher education at George Washington University.

Dr. Wilson is a graduate of Morehouse College. He holds a master’s degree in theology, a master’s degree, and Ph.D. in administration, planning, and social policy from Harvard University.

Moryah Jackson was named director of diversity education in the Office of Inclusion and Equity at Clemson University in South Carolina. She has been serving as the assistant director of diversity, inclusion and community engagement at the University of South Carolina.

Jackson is a graduate of Columbia College in South Carolina. She earned a master of public administration degree from the University of South Carolina and is working on a doctorate in higher education administration from the University of Florida.

Kijua Sanders-McMurty was named the inaugural vice president for equity and inclusion and chief diversity officer at Mount Holyoke College in South Hadley, Massachusetts, effective August 6. She currently serves as associate vice president and dean for community diversity at Agnes Scott College in Decatur, Georgia.

Dr. Sanders-McMurty dropped out of high school in California. She later earned an associate’s degree at Pasadena City College and went on to earn bachelor’s and master’s degrees in sociology and a doctorate in educational policy studies from Georgia State University.

A.L. Fleming is the new vice president for development and alumni relations at Albany State University in Georgia. He has been serving as director of corporate and foundation relations at the Thurgood Marshall College Fund. He is the former associate vice president for institutional advancement at South Carolina State University.

Fleming is a certified fund-raising executive and a certified fund-raising manager.
